Singer’s latest novel, “The Justice Game,” is a personal one.

The author, who has been compared to John Grisham, tackles a political hot potato — gun rights versus gun control, and presents a fair and balanced account of both sides. In an unusual twist, Singer lets his readers decide what the verdict will be in the trial in the story.

Larry Jamison is angry over an investigative piece TV reporter Rachel Crawford has done, which claimed he was in the human trafficking business. He walks into the station firing his gun and grabs Rachel. He demands to be on the air. He shoots one of her co-workers and threatens to shoot others until his demand is met. When the SWAT team arrives, Rachel wrenches out of his arm and dives under her desk, but Jamison kills her as the SWAT team bullets riddle his body. The tragedy is compounded: Rachel was 22 weeks pregnant.

The shooter is dead; the gun dealer, Peninsula Arms, is bankrupt; so prosecuting attorney Kelly Starling goes after the gun manufacturer, MD Arms. The gun, which killed Rachel and her co-worker, has no function other than to kill people. MD Arms, she contends, knew they were selling to a gun dealer, which sold guns through straw purchases — A legal purchaser buys a gun only for the purpose of selling it immediately back to a felon.
