The staff of Boston’s Boots store participating in the fundraiser Friday and Saturday, cycled the equivalent of a 100 miles on a stationary exercise bike, raising as much as £354.38 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
All staff participating across UK stores have been trying to cover 290,000 miles i. e. one mile for every person diagnosed with cancer each year in the UK.
Store manager Maria Martin said the customers responded most generously, with one lady emptying all the change in her purse.
The Boots team also sold butterfly badges for the Macmillan appeal, and hoping to raise more money they also held a coffee morning for staff and ex-staff.
Coping with cancer is extremely difficult, but having to worry about money only adds to the burden, as Steve and Glennis Prout found, when Prout underwent treatment for bladder cancer, due to which he was made redundant from his job.
